A Historic Win: UNILAG’s Mass Communication Department Celebrates All-Female First-Class Cohort
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is celebrating a remarkable achievement: for the 2023/2024 academic session, the Department of Mass Communication produced a historic cohort of 18 first-class graduates, all of whom are female.
This impressive feat was announced during the university’s 55th Convocation Ceremony, which saw a total of 16,590 students graduate. Among these graduates, 9,865 earned first degrees and diplomas, while 6,659 received postgraduate degrees. The UNILAG Business School (ULBS) also graduated 66 students.
The outstanding all-female group includes Feranmi Abiola, Ahuruele Akani, Oyindamola Arikawe, Ifedayo Ayilaran, Demiladeogo Bankole, Olaide Bankole, Eniola Daramola, Faith Enang, Temiloluwa Igbinlade, Joy Imanah, Ifeoma Iwelunmor, Chelsea Jegede, Opeyemi Kareem, Eunice Obidi, Frances Odogu, Mofesola Olanrewaju, Funmilola Onabanjo, and Peace Onuoha.
In a tribute to their academic excellence, the university acknowledged the hard work, resilience, and dedication of these graduates. Several students, including Peace Onuoha and Temiloluwa Igbinlade, shared their personal stories of overcoming challenges with discipline and effective time management.
Other notable achievements at the ceremony included Christian Uwagwu, who graduated as the best student from the Faculty of Education with a CGPA of 4.78, and Ibrahim Sefiu, who earned the highest CGPA of 4.82 in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
UNILAG’s Vice-Chancellor, Folasade Ogunsola, praised the university’s academic and infrastructural progress, highlighting the new MED-AFRICA GMP Laboratory, a cutting-edge facility for advanced HIV prevention research within the Faculty of Pharmacy.
This extraordinary accomplishment solidifies UNILAG\\’s position as a leader in academic excellence and innovation both in Nigeria and globally.
